JANUARY

Slow season! Be sure to monitor drainage & keep lawn debris-free. Avoid heavy traffic on your frosty lawn to avoid compaction.

FEBRUARY

First month of prep work for spring. Towards the end of the month, apply moss killer and winter fertilizer once temps begin hovering over 40°F.

MARCH

Spring is coming! Rake out moss, aerate if compacted, treat with lime if pH <6.0, then overseed. Apply early spring fertilizer (slow-release nitrogen).

APRIL

The final push into spring. Continue to overseed if needed, begin mowing weekly or bi-weekly, and hold off on watering as the weather warms. We'll want to avoid moss grow while temps are still cold in the morning & night.

MAY

Welcome to peak lawn season - it's thriving! Apply a balanced spring fertilizer every 4-6 weeks from now until its too hot, and mow weekly at 2.5 - 3.5"

JUNE

The lawn is still thriving, but the heat brings weeds and often spotting. Break out the sprinklers, spot-treat areas of weeds & dry patches with fresh soil & seed, and give the lawn another fertilizer feeding if the turf needs a boost.

JULY

Hello Summer! If you aren't using the sprinklers every day for the next few months, the lawn will turn into a nice, crispy tan by the end of the month. Yes, it adds to the water bill, but you use less electricity & gas in the summer, so it's a tradeoff worth embracing! Oh and no more fertilizing. Don't burn the lawn.

AUGUST

Keep the sprinklers on. If you want to host that end of summer party, Labor Day gathering, or fall backyard BBQ, you'll be glad you watered every day in August. If you have shaded areas, start to assess thin or moss-prone areas in order to prep for fall aeration.

SEPTEMBER

Fall maintenance season. You can continue to water and mow for the first few weeks, but then it's time to aerate, scarify, dethatch, overseed, & apply a high-nitrogen fall fertilizer to the whole lawn. It's the best time of the year to prep for next year. Also the best time to plant a new lawn!

OCTOBER

Spooky season! Your lawn is recovering & rebuilding from fall prep, so continue fertilizing with another fall feeding, and maybe think about applying lime if the soil pH is low. Also, be sure to keep leaves and foliage off the lawn.

NOVEMBER

It's getting cold out there. Not much to do this month, but winterizing the lawn with a slow-release nitrogen + potassium blend fertilizer is a safe bet (aka Winter Fertilizer).

DECEMBER

Happy Holidays! Take some time with family and don't stress about the lawn. Maybe get out there with the leaf blower every once & a while to keep everything looking fresh. Avoid heavy traffic on your frosty lawn to avoid compaction.
